The screenshots above show some of the recent Wordpress and bespoke websites that Melted Media have built for customers. There are a mix of WordPress sites and bespoke websites built with PHP and a MySQL database. There are also some interesting in-house WordPress projects that the team have worked on. You can read some more about these examples below.
WordPress websites
Amongst the recent WordPress websites Melted Media have built is pickpackpost.me, created for a family run eBay fulfilment business also based in Reading. FMS, the company behind the site, wanted a simple theme where the content could stand out. For this reason, Melted Media chose the build the site using the Shapely theme, by far the most advanced free WordPress theme available at the time.
Another recent WordPress job was a WordPress website for The Bruce Arms pub in Macclesfield. Melted Media built the pub’s first ever website years ago using ASP and VBScript. When a new landlord took over the pub last year, he got in touch with the team and commissioned them redesign the site using WordPress.
Bespoke websites
Melted Media have built many bespoke websites when a WordPress site isn't necessarily the right fit.
A client of Melted Media for nearly 15 years now, Melted Media have built several websites for Jenna Robins, who recently said "they’ve designed many websites and landing pages for me, always with user-friendly layouts. They’ve been a great support with tech advice and never fail to deliver for the right price". You can see a video of Jenna that was used on her website at the bottom of the page.
A client for many years, Stuart Smith approached Melted Media off the back of a recommendation from a fellow company director. Stuart has used Melted Media to build dozens of sites over the last ten years, both bespoke builds and using WordPress. Stuart says "they understand my brief, react quickly, produce exactly what I want and their prices are very reasonable. I unhesitatingly recommend them".
Newsletter sites
Some time ago Melted Media built a newsletter website for FOSSUK (Federation of Swiss Societies in the UK) and they later adapted this into a newsletter website engine which they could repackage for other clients. Working particularly well for non-profits organisations and clubs, the engine provided a simple interface for managing subscribers and creating and publishing email newsletters. A couple of examples in the portfolio above are the newsletter sites for Rotary District 1285 (comprising of 68 Rotary Clubs in the North West of England) and Sale Golf Club, one of the best golf courses in Cheshire.
In-house WordPress projects
Melted Media have built a number of in-house WordPress sites, an example is Trainerspotter, a search engine for trainers. The website was built to automatically generate posts based on a product fee. The site pulled the feed from Affiliate WIndow, but it could be easily adapted to work with any affiliate netwrok. It was originally developed quite a while back, so the team have recently made the site mobile-friendly using the WPtouch WordPress plugin.
A more recent similar project was Everything Baby, a concept they scoped many years back. The site is designed to be a portal for everything baby-related and is again populated using product feeds, but this time the team experimented with WooCommerce, the ecommerce plugin for WordPress.

Melted Media, a whistle-stop tour
It began back in 2002 and Melted Media had just been formed. The founders had both been employed as developers at Europress Software, an educational and entertainment software publisher. When it ceased trading in June 2002, Melted Media was set up to continue developing CD-ROMs to be released under the Europress brand name.
Although those initial few projects were mainly creating educational CD-ROMs, it wasn't long until they Melted Media would start developing for the web, initially building games with multimedia platforms Macromedia Shockwave and Flash, before eventually being hired to work on full websites jobs.
Over the course of the next few years, Melted Media worked on over 20 educational and licenced titles, developing for several different UK software houses such as GSP and Focus Multimedia, as well as Koch Media, the new owners of the Europress brand. Probably the most famous brand the team worked on was Art Attack, for which they developed Art Attack Comic Creator and Art Attack Digital. The latter was a photo editing program designed for use by children, allowing them to perform wacky special effects on their imported digital photographs. The release reached No. 1 on the Amazon.co.uk Hot 100 Software chart in the run up to Christmas 2004.
The following few years would see the Melted Media team commissioned to develop online games, with the opportunity to work in collaboration with some larger agencies, working on projects for well-known brands like Toyota and Carlsberg. The experience got them into developing their own games and the most successful of these was Autofrag Sumo. The game was a 3D Shockwave racing and combat game and proved to be an amazing advert for the team, getting to No.1 in the Channel4.com 4GAMES CHART in October 2004 and staying at the top of three years!
The logical next step was into full website builds and this happens to be where most of their focus has been over the last 13 years. They have not just offered web design in Macclesfield for small local businesses, but also for larger clients such as a online men's fashion retailer, for which they did completely bespoke ecommerce development and integration. This focus on website development has given them a huge amount of experience to call upon. They use it to help small businesses get online with their first website and have refined their on-boarding process to be completely pain free. This is why they love WordPress for developing websites. Interested to hear more? Keep on reading...
